La Jolla Shores Beach and Shops

La Jolla Shores is the starting point to enjoy the spectacular La Jolla Ecological Reserve, home to more documented marine life than anywhere else in the world. (If you come on a La Jolla Sightseeing Tour with TourGuideTim, you will learn why so much marine life is attracted to this area.)

If you are interested in jumping into the water to enjoy the water sports activities in La Jolla Shores like kayaking, snorkeling, and surfing, be sure view the picture slideshow of Kayakers, Snorkelers and Surfers Having Fun in the La Jolla Ecological Reserve.

If you prefer to stay on the beach, you won’t find a better place to do it than La Jolla Shores. A wide, sandy beach stretches for over a mile. Whether you just want to find the perfect spot to sit or take a stroll past Scripps Park and the nearby 100+ foot beach cliffs, you will probably find yourself spending half the time looking out at the ocean and half the time facing the opposite direction daydreaming about living in the mansions that occupy the hillside in La Jolla Shores.

La Jolla Shores has all of the amenities for out-of-town visitors. (Well, everything except easy parking, which is another reason why you should join TourGuideTim for a sightseeing ride to La Jolla Shores, where you will have 2.5 hours of free time to enjoy the beach. ) There are showers, changing rooms, a fantastic children’s playground designed with a Southern California beach theme, a playground map helping people learn about the marine life that live in the La Jolla Ecological Reserve, and a nice large grassy park.

A street of shops is located just a few blocks from the beach. You can buy swim suits and beach towels and rent all types of beach gear. There are also several restaurants, including everything from a favorite local hamburger shop to sushi and fine Italian dining.
