Wandering Educators Photos
Welcome Wandering Educators! I hope your exploration of our amazing planet includes a trip to San Diego.
San Diego offers a unique opportunity to visit a cosmopolitan city nestled between the ocean, mountains, and desert. Within a two hours drive, you can walk along beach side cliffs and canyons where hundreds of shore birds navigate their way along the Pacific Flyway, hike to the 6,500 foot mountain peaks surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest, and then descend down to the floor of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the second largest in the country.
You will learn about volcanic activity that created the interesting topography you will see in San Diego and a changing climate that was once home to prehistoric animals such as the American Lion, Camels, and Zebras.
You will also learn San Diego is the oldest city on the West Coast. American Indians lived off the local land for several thousand years before Spanish Explorers arrived and eventually established the first of the California Missions. You will learn in Old Town State Park that not long after Mexicans established their independence from Spain, San Diego soon changed hands once again when it became part of America at the end of the Mexican-American War.
So, come out to explore what San Diego has to offer. Feel free to contact me with questions. I look forward to your visit.
Best Wishes,
Timothy Schenck
