torrey-pines-golfTorrey Pines Golf Course Highlights: Located on seaside cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is one of the most beautiful settings for golf in the world. Torrey Pines is home to the annual PGA Farmers Insurance Open Golf Tournament (formerly the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament) each February and the annual Junior World Golf Championship each July. It also served as the site of the U.S. Open, one of the major championships on the PGA Tour, in 2008.

Not only do golfers get a challenging course with breathtaking views, they also receive one of the best values in golf since it is owned by the City of San Diego. This makes getting a tee time at Torrey Pines very challenging, but doable.

Learn more about La Jolla Sightseeing Tours with TourGuideTimThere are two golf courses at Torrey Pines. Both are quality courses used in the first two rounds of PGA Tournaments. However, the South Course is the more challenging of the two and is where the final two rounds of PGA golf tournaments are played. Whether you play the North or South Course, you will enjoy great views and a memorable experience that will last a lifetime.

What to Expect

  • Golf is played year-round in San Diego. Read our description about San Diego weather for details on what to expect. No matter the time of year, consider bringing a windbreaker. Fog can sometimes roll-in on the golf course and cool things down quickly. This happens more often during May and June, especially during the morning hours.
  • Don’t be caught off-guard when on occasion the silence on the golf course is broken as an F/A-18 flies overhead after taking off from nearby Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
  • Also, when playing the South Course, don’t be surprised to see a handful of paragliders, who have launched from the Torrey Pines Glider Port, floating just above the cliffs.
  • There is a large golf shop and a restaurant for golfers and those who just want to hang out and look at the course.
  • You can also hit balls at the Torrey Pines Driving Range. However, there is not much of a view from here if that is what you are looking for.
