The original Playhouse was established in 1947 by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, and Mel Ferrer.

The La Jolla Playhouse consists of three theatres on the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) campus. Each provides a different atmosphere and layout, but all seat about 400 – 500 patrons. On rare occasions there are two productions taking place at the same time in different theatres. Patrons with accessibility issues will find the Playhouse goes to great lengths to ensure all people can enjoy their productions.

Special Events – Enjoy a special evening in an intimate setting that often includes a dinner, performance by a nationally recognized entertainer, and a post party. Tickets prices for these special events include a donation to the La Jolla Playhouse.

Dining – There is a fine dining restaurant at the La Jolla Playhouse complex. It is Wolfgang Puck’s Jai restaurant. For more fine dining options, visit nearby La Jolla Shores, which less than a 5 minute drive away, or the Village of La Jolla, which is a little more than 10 minutes south of the Playhouse. For more casual restaurants, you will find several options along Villa La Jolla Drive, just south of the UCSD campus.
