Harbor Island

by

Location: Harbor Island (2 Miles West of Downtown San Diego; Across the Street from the San Diego Airport)

Features: Great place to relax or go for a walk before or after a plane flight; charter a boat; take an exhilirating ride on a RIB Boat; dine at two fine establishments with city skyline views.

Harbor Island Highlights: Harbor Island is a peaceful paradise across the street from the San Diego Airport and just a twenty minute walk from Downtown San Diego. Yes, you do hear the planes in the background but the 1.5 mile paved trail running along the San Diego Harbor and lined with trees is scarcely used, offering a peaceful environment to enjoy the views. Sailboats pass by gracefully as you look out to the city skyline in the distance.

If you are motivated to sail off into the sunset, sailboat rentals are available on the island. You can even hire a captain to sail the boat for you as you sit back and relax.

If you are looking for something more upbeat, you can charter or take a scheduled Adventure R.I.B Ride. (R.I.B stands for Rigid Inflatable Boat.) The boats are operated by former Coast Guard Captains. Riding a R.I.B boat provides an up-close view of your favorite marine life in the waters around San Diego, including seals, sea lions, dolphins, and whales.

And, if you’re hungry, you can enjoy one of two popular restaurants for either lunch or dinner. They are located on opposite ends of the island with Island Prime offering the closer views of the Downtown Skyline to the east and Tom Ham’s Lighthouse offering a more casual setting to the west.
