coronado-museumHighlights for the Museum of History & Art: The small community of Coronado has been known nationally for decades as home to the historic Hotel del Coronado and for being the birthplace of Naval Aviation. Today, the Hotel Del is still serving guests from throughout the world and the Naval Base on Coronado is still the center of world naval power and home to two nuclear aircraft carriers. Visit the Coronado Museum of History & Art to learn the history of each of these two landmark institutions.

The Hotel del Coronado exhibition room describes the development of the largest resort hotel on the West Coast in 1888.  You will see pictures of the famous stars and numerous Presidents who have stayed at the hotel as well as a collection of artifacts and notes of important events that took place over the years.

The exhibition room on Naval History includes a 7-minute video on Coronado’s role in the development of both naval and air power.  The room is full of pictures, stories, and a timeline describing many firsts in military history that took place on Coronado. There are also displays about the Navy SEALS, who are based on Coronado.

In addition to these permanent exhibits, the Museum hosts temporary exhibits in a third gallery. You can view details about the current exhibition online.

Historical Society Tours of Coronado – The historical society offers several tours of historically significant buildings throughout Coronado. Tours take place throughout the week and typically last 1 – 1.5 hours. The cost ranges between $10 and $15. Reservations are required.
