Free Tours of an active Aircraft Carrier this weekend

Last year, I blogged about touring the USS Ronald Reagan. It was a great experience to learn what life is like for the sailors who serve our country.

Many have inquired how they too can visit an active, nuclear-powered, aircraft carrier. Well, this weekend, you can do just that. The USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) will be open for public tours at North Island.

There is not much mentioned online about the tour, which will take place as part of the Coronado Speed Festival during San Diego’s Fleet Week.  However, an ad in last weekend’s Union Tribune noted that you do not have to pay to attend the Coronado Speed Festival in order to tour the ship.

The ad mentioned to park in the general parking area being used for the Coronado Speed Festival and then proceed to the trolley stand that will be near the entrance and static displays.

I highly recommend this unique opportunity.
