The Flower Fields

Carlsbad Flower FieldsApril Showers may bring May Flowers in most parts of the country. However, in San Diego, we get to bask in the views of spring flowers much earlier during March and April.

On a daily basis, we get our fill of beautiful colors with the ice plants that line the highways and sides of canyons and hills during the early months of the year. However, if you are looking for something a little more intense and up-close, check out The Flower Fields in Carlsbad.

From March through the beginning of May, you can “explore 50-plus acres of breathtaking Giant Tecolote Ranunculus, abundant roses in the All American Rose Garden, the world famous Ecke poinsettias and tour the entire ranch on an exciting tractor ride”. This is the only commercial grower in the world that provides public access to enjoy the beauty of Ranunculus flowers.

Visit the web site for the Carlsbad Flower Fields to see a schedule of special events including a bluegrass festival, kids’ day, style show, and photography workshop. The flower show is open daily from 9AM – 6PM. There is an entrance fee plus an additional cost if you take the tractor ride. Season passes are also available. See the website for more details.

If you are short on time or money, drive east one more traffic light to Armada Drive. Just north of the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort, there is parallel parking and a public viewing area that looks over the Flower Fields and out to the Pacific Ocean.

Directions (5704 Paseo Del Norte) from Google Maps. The Flower Fields are about 25 minutes north of downtown San Diego. It is just one block east of I-5. Traffic can be quite heavy between the I-5 and the Flower Field parking area. As an alternative, you may want to take El Camino Real to Palomar Airport Road and then head west towards the Flower Fields. El Camino Real is also a good alternative to the heavy weekend traffic on the I-5.

Food: There are several restaurants nearby including:

Islands Restaurant at the corner of Paseo Del Norte and 889 Palomar Airport Road

Tip Top Meats and European Deli on 6118 Paseo Del Norte, just south of Palomar Airport Road

Several Restaurants, including Bellefleur Restaurant, Ruby’s Diner, and Rubio’s in the Carlsbad Premium Outlets at 5620 Paseo Del Norte, just north of Palomar Airport Road.
