USS Ronald Regan at port in San Diego BayFleet Week, a tradition first started in San Diego back in 1935, celebrates military ships and personnel recently deployed overseas. The first Fleet Week included a parade of 114 warships, 400 military planes, and 58,000 Navy personnel. It was an opportunity for the service members to take a little time off and enjoy the city of San Diego while providing an opportunity for civilian guests to tour the ships.

Today, Fleet Week is celebrated in several cities across the country. In San Diego, Fleet Week consists of a series of events throughout the year, including the Air & Sea Parade and the MCAS Miramar Air Show.

This year’s free Sea & Air Parade will take place on Saturday, May 3rd from 10:30AM – 1PM on San Diego Bay, near Harbor and Shelter Islands. Learn more about the event and get information about brunch and spectator cruises being offered in conjunction with the festivities.

Also, considering sticking around for the Red Bull Air Race that will take place over San Diego Bay after the parade.
